Wednesday Early Release Programs

We will be offering our Wednesday Early Release Programs once again this year to Brouillet, Carson, Pope, Edgerton, Woodland and Shaw Road Elementary Schools. These programs focus on developing physically active habits in the life of your child. The first hour consists of conditioning, agility training, coordination and nutritional habits. The second hour will be a PE style curriculum that emphasizes fun, teamwork, sportsmanship and discipline. This year we are offering a Stranger Danger class at Fruitland Elementary School for our Wednesday Early Release Program. Stranger Danger teaches children 5 rules of protecting themselves from a stranger. These rules and techniques will be practiced over and over until the child successfully accomplishes all 5 rules and escapes from their trainer. Give your kids the tools they need to stay safe. Enroll them in this class today!

The Life of a College Football Player

Here is a little insight into the world of college football, this is a blogpost from a sports writer of the Idaho State Journal.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let’s play football
July 31st, 2009

By Kelvin Ang

Well, Idaho State football fans, your wait is nearly over. It’s about that time of year again, when the Bengals get back on the field for preseason camp.

Idaho State SID Frank Mercogliano was kind enough to provide us with a
blow-by-blow schedule of what the Bengals will go through in the next month, and let me tell you, it will scare you.
Players officially check in for physicals on Wednesday, and the first practice is at 4 p.m. Thursday. They go to two-a-days every other day beginning Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The first scrimmage is 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, and the second is at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. The mock game is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, and then school starts the week after that.

But back to my point about what the players are looking at for the next month of their lives. This is what a pretty typical day in the schedule looks like:

7 a.m.: Wake up
7:15 a.m.: Staff meeting
7:30 a.m.: Breakfast
8:50 a.m.: Pre-practice
9 a.m.: Practice
11:30 a.m.: Lunch
1:30 – 2 p.m.: Special teams meetings
2 p.m.: Offense/Defense unit meetings
2:15- 3:15 p.m.: Position meetings
3:50 p.m.: Pre-practice
4 p.m.: Practice
6:30 p.m. Dinner
7:30 p.m.: Special teams meeting
7:45 p.m.: Team meeting
8 p.m.: Offense/Defense unit meeting
8:15 p.m.: Position meeting
9:30 p.m.: Staff meeting
10:30 p.m.: Bed check

Tell me, does that not intimidate you? Do you see a time slot in there for the movies or TV? Football isn’t a full-time job for these players. It’s pretty much full-time life.
